Conservation Journalist, Author and Filmmaker
Swati Thiyagarajan is a multi-award-winning conservation journalist, author and filmmaker. She was the Environment Editor at NDTV for over a decade and presented her own show Born Wild a show focusing on conservation and wildlife issues around India, a first of its kind on Indian television. She pioneered how conservation news was covered by television news channels and was content editor of Special Programmes on NDTV, a completely new and innovative way that news channels televised campaigns. The Save our Tigers, Greenathon: Climate Change and Banega Swasth India, a health campaign , were sustained events over several years that helped change policy in the country and highlight important issues around the environment and health challenges in India. She authored the book, Born Wild, Journeys into the wild hearts of India and Africa based on her work. She was the Associate Producer and Production Manager on the Academy Award winning My Octopus Teacher. At present she works as a conservation journalist and storyteller for the Sea Change Project based in Cape Town and as the Environment Editor for the Environment Matters section on DeKoder an online information App developed and founded by the original founders of NDTV. Swati believes that storytelling is key to unlocking curiosity and inspiring people and bringing about organic and true change.
