Indigenous actress Jessica Matten, who is of Red River Métis, Cree, Chinese, and European descent, the spotlight is more than just a stage—it’s a platform for change. Named one of Canada’s most promising talents by The Hollywood Reporter and praised for her powerful performances by The Globe and Mail, Matten has captivated audiences in Lebron James’ “Rez Ball”, George RR Martin and Robert Redford’s “Dark Winds”, Jason Momoa’s “Frontier”, and to be released “Avatar the Last Airbender” for Paramount studios as Katara.
Her true mission extends far beyond the screen. As president of her production and charity: “7 Forward Entertainment”, she has produced Native TV series “Tales from the Rez” streaming on AMC network this fall 2025, helped her graduates get internships on TV series such as “Interview with the Vampire” to name a few. Jessica has funded programs for the “Coalition to Stop Violence Against Native Women”, funded the Navajo nations’s first all matriarch Skatepark, help hundreds across the remote Indigenous communities with mental health and fitness across Canada and premiered her first documentary “Boil Alert” focusing on lack of clean drinking water across Native reserves in North America. Last year she was awarded alongside Olivia Davis, Ziggy Marley and Jay Shetty Variety’s first “Faith & Spirituality” Award last December 2025, Next March 2026 she will accept the “Building the Change/Chadwick Boseman Changemaker Award” in NYC alongside Taranji P. Henson, for her ongoing humanitarian work with her Indigenous communities.
As the president of 7 Forward Entertainment and a founder of one of North America’s first Indigenous Film Academy, she actively shapes the future of Indigenous representation in film and television. Whether funding grassroots film projects in remote communities, fighting for clean water access, or mentoring Indigenous youth, Matten is rewriting the script in Hollywood and real life.
