Azie Tesfai is an actor, writer, producer, and social entrepreneur. She co-starred on The CW’s Supergirl as ex-military psychologist Kelly Olsen and DC Comics superhero The Guardian—becoming the first Ethiopian person to portray a superhero on screen. In addition to starring in the series, Tesfai co-wrote a pivotal episode during its final season.
She previously played Homicide Detective Nadine Hansan in the Golden Globe-nominated series Jane the Virgin and most recently appeared in the hit shows Matlock and Bel-Air.
Tesfai sold her original pilot The Chase to Universal Television for NBC and is developing Sheba—a drama about the first queen on the African continent—with Ryan Coogler’s Proximity Media producing. She is currently writing Accidental Assassin for Amazon.
In the unscripted space, she is developing a docuseries with Aldis Hodge and Amplify Pictures, as well as an unscripted dating series with Issa Rae’s Hoorae.
