“This panel will explore the impactful social movement initiated by the documentary film THE EBONY CANAL, which addresses the disparities in maternal health and infant mortality rates affecting Black women. The discussion will focus on the power of media to educate and inspire change, highlighting strategies for filmmakers to engage communities and promote social impact through storytelling. Attendees will gain actionable insights on grassroots promotion, collaboration with social change agents, and the importance of authentic narratives in driving awareness and support for critical issues.

Panelists include **Emmai Alaquiva**, Emmy Award-Winning Director of THE EBONY CANAL, known for his cinematic storytelling and advocacy for social change; **Brenda Gilbert**, Executive Producer and Co-Founder of BRON Media Corp, with over 20 years of experience in impactful filmmaking; and a representative from Black Maternal & Infant Health, who will discuss the film’s role in raising awareness about systemic disparities. The panel will be moderated by **Theo Dumont**, Co-Founder of the HollyShorts Film Festival, bringing expertise in using short films as vehicles for social change.”
